Icelandair recently launched a corporate responsibility strategy that helps further their commitment to the environment and aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development goals. Reducing the airline’s environmental impact is a priority of Icelandair, and they are implementing new initiatives to put sustainability first.
The airline’s newest project aims to reduce the use of single-use plastics onboard – Icelandair passengers used 1.6 billion bottles of water in 2019, and the airline plans to continually decrease this number by using 20 tons less of plastic per year. Great onboard service will remain the same and every passenger will still receive water free of charge.
Icelandair hoped to begin this drive in 2020, but changes in onboard service due to COVID-19 safety measures caused a slight delay. Now, they are ready to focus on creating a greener and more sustainable future for both the airline and the environment.
