With a university degree in literature and publishing, Stella Soffía Jóhannesdóttir has been involved in the Icelandic literary scene since 2009. She is the director of the Reykjavík International Literary Festival, a biannual festival held since 1985 that returns to Iceland April 24-27 this year. 20 international authors attend the festival, along with Icelandic authors, journalists and more. Since 2000, the festival has hosted a fellowship program for international publishers. When Iceland was the Guest of Honor at the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2011, Stella was in charge of the literature program at the fair itself, promoting Icelandic literature abroad. Stella is now also the acquisitions editor for Forlagid, Iceland’s biggest publisher, and is still running the festival, where she is in charge of management and artistic direction.
