Skyr is one of Iceland’s oldest and seldom changed traditions and has been a staple in Icelanders’ diets for nearly 1,000 years. Skyr is a thick, cultured dairy product, which contains more protein and 1/3 less sugar than regular yogurt, proving it a substantial and healthy snack that Icelanders have relied on throughout history. Skyr was introduced to Iceland when Nordic settlers arrived to the island and has grown to become a pillar in Icelandic culture, and included in Icelandic tales and sagas about family feuds and heroes.
Icelandic Provisions was co-founded in 1927 by MS Iceland Dairies, a cooperative of over 700 Icelandic farming families. Born in nature and sustainable agriculture, Icelandic Provisions’ skyr is the only skyr in North America made of Heirloom Skyr Cultures. Icelandic Provisions continues to be North America’s most authentic and well-loved Icelandic skyr, packed with protein and all natural dairy ingredients, making the dairy treat smooth, pure and delicious.
