What is Icelandic Contemporary Art?

Iceland is widely known for its creativity in many different facets. In fact, a recent study proved there are several cultural, environmental and individual factors contributing to Icelanders’ artistic expression: first, Icelanders express attitudes of independence and tolerance that support openness and inclusiveness. These personality traits correlate strongly with creativity. The study also discovered that Icelanders were more likely to attribute their creative inspiration to their strong sense of community and national pride rather than the natural landscapes of the country. However, that’s not to say that Iceland’s landscapes aren’t inspiring too! For the artist in this video, Iceland’s texture – the texture of the snow – inspired this work.
