This summer, tourists and locals will be able to enjoy, relax, and rejuvenate in Iceland’s first floating pools located in the natural hot springs of Lake Urriðavatn. Combining the best of many experiences, the Vök Baths will offer spring water pools, hot pools on the lakeshore, cold water tunnels and a sauna – all with a beautiful view of the lake.

The crystal clear waters and 75-degree water streams will be opening on July 1, 2019. The grounds offer multiple amenities for guests to enjoy, including a cafe serving local cuisine made from organic ingredients sourced from nearby producers, and tisanes brewed from the purest spring water in the country.
Located in Eastern Iceland, the pools sit in one of the purest and most untouched locations on the entire island. The architecture designed by the Reykjavik-based Basalt Architects and the interior designed in collaboration with Basalt Architects and Design Group Italia, celebrate and highlight the lake’s purity by creating an establishment that seamlessly fits within nature.
The lake’s history was also taken into account when naming the new destination. The word “Vök” originates from 1963, when locals discovered the lake’s geothermal activity. Confused as to why specific spots in the lake would remain unfrozen in cold temperatures, they named the unexplainable situation “Vök” meaning “melted ice holes.”
