Verne Global, a developer of energy efficient data centers, has turned to Level 3 Communications to implement an Internet Protocol (IP)-driven Point-of-Presence (PoP) in Iceland. The collaboration will help Verne Global’s customers connect to more than 40 new countries accessible through direct connectivity to Level 3’s global network.
Customers can now choose IP, CDN, virtual private network or cloud services over the Level 3 connection, potentially providing multiple redundant network routes for added reliability.
“Iceland is an ideal location for businesses to house their data, as it is the central point for a wide variety of key locations,” said Dominic Ward, VP of Corporate & Business Development at Verne Global.
Verne’s carrier-neutral campus, which is in Keflavik, a former NATO base near Reykjavik, offers 100% renewable energy thanks to Landsvirkjun, the National Power Company of Iceland. Landsvirkjun also recently announced it will provide 100% renewable electricity to power PCC’s metallurgical grade silicon metal plant near Husavik. By signing this long-term PPA with PCC, Landsvirkjun continues to reaffirm the competitive business environment in Iceland.
