Upcoming Wikileaks Movie Filming in Reykjavik

The upcoming film The Man Who Sold the World, which tells the story of Julian Assange and Wikileaks, will be filming scenes in Reykjavik this January, Iceland Review today reported.

British actor Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) is slated to play Assange alongside a cast including Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey), Alicia Vikander (Anna Karenina), and Daniel Brühl (Inglourious Basterds). Bill Condon, who also directed The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part One and Two, is directing the Wikileaks film.

The movie’s script is based on the books Wikileaks: Inside Julian Assange’s War on Secrecy and Inside Wikileaks: My Time With Julian Assange at the World’s Most Dangerous Website. According to Slashfilm, the film, “will reportedly portray Assange as an idealist who becomes corrupted by power — so probably not a character assassination piece, but not exactly a love letter, either.”

The Man Who Sold the World has not announced a release date, but is expected to hit screens sometime in 2014.
