Congrats to Reykjavíkurdætur for their recent win in the Music Moves Europe Talent Awards! The Icelandic group of female rappers recently struck gold in the hip hop and rap category of the awards that celebrate the European music industry and some of the most creative artists. The nominees of the awards were announced at the Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg, Germany, and the winners were announced during the ceremony at the opening night of ESNS in Groningen.
Reykjavíkurdætur, meaning “the daughters of Reykjavik,” are an all-female rap group with eleven members from the Reykjavik. Following the release of their first album, RVK DTR in 2013, they received worldwide recognition. The group rotates in performing in solos, duos, trios or all together in dynamic performances that combine both Icelandic and English lyrics. The group tackles some of the most daring topics in their songs, including gender inequality, the empowerment of women, politics and first world hype.

The Music Moves Europe Talent Awards celebrate the emerging artists who represent the European sound of today and tomorrow. Every year, outstanding artists will receive a Music Moves Europe Talent Award in recognition of their international success, as well as being rewarded with a performance at ESNS, a training programme and financial support for touring and promotion. Compared to Anglo-American music, the total percentage of music originating from mainland Europe is relatively small.
