Reykjavik Culture Night

Celebrate Icelandic culture on August 24th at Reykjavik Culture Night

Reykjavik Culture Night will be held for the 18th time this year on August 24th. Menningarnótt, or “cultural night,” has become a permanent fixture in the annual calendar of events in Reykjavík and marks the start of the city’s cultural year.

The event’s slogan, “come on in!”, refers to the Icelandic custom of hospitality. Residents embody this slogan by celebrating in city streets and squares, museums, businesses and even in residential gardens! With more than 1,000 guests and 600 events, Culture Night is the biggest and most popular event in Iceland. The program offers events ranging from musical performances to exhibitions of art and architecture, all free of charge and delivered by the city’s budding talent.

The highlight of the festival is an outdoor concert featuring some of the most popular Icelandic musicians, followed by a spectacular fireworks show at midnight. Culture Night is organized and produced by the events team at Visit Reykjavik in collaboration with other city departments, organizations, artists, and societies.

The annual Islandsbanki Reykjavik Marathon will also take place on August 24th. The race cuts through downtown Reykjavik and features a marathon, half marathon, relay, 10 km, and 3 km fun run.

With almost 24-hours of sunlight during the summer months, Iceland is home to some of the best festivals in the world. Below are some other festivals taking place this month!
