Iceland’s Keflavik airport recently celebrated the five millionth passenger to pass through its doors. For the first time in the airports history, two milestones have been celebrated within the same year with Jacqueline and Stephen Playford becoming the six millionth to travel through! The couple from London was given flowers, tours around Iceland with Reykjavik Excursions, a gift from Cintamani and flight tickets to any of Icelandair’s destinations.
As Iceland continues to see growth in tourism, the airport will continue to celebrate record numbers of travelers passing through Keflavik airport. The airport forecast predicts 8.75 million passengers will travel through the airport in the upcoming year. In 2017, Keflavik is expected to see a 33% increase in travel in the summer and a 35% increase in the winter. It’s also expected that Icelanders will travel 7.4% more in 2017 than 2016.
