Recap: Iceland Geothermal Conference, April 26 – 29, 2016

Held at Harpa Conference Centre in Reykjavik, 2016 is the conference's third year.

Kicking off Tuesday April 26, Iceland’s Geothermal Conference took over Reykjavik for four days of insightful presentations and speakers. With over 600 participants from more than 50 countries, this was Iceland’s largest geothermal conference to date. The conference covered critical issues in the development of geothermal projects.

With over 30 side events, including an event hosted by the Women In Geothermal group, paired with a networking dinner, the conference provided a great environment to generate discussions on geothermal development. Field trips to geothermal power plants, district heating and Reykjanes Geothermal Resources Park round out an exciting few days.

Keynote speakers at the event included Lilja Alfredsdóttir, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Iceland; Rachel Kyte, CEO & Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Sustainable Energy for All; Dr. Hördur Arnarson, the CEO of Landsvirkjun; Ásgeir Margeirsson, CEO of HS Orka; Prof. Michael Porter of Harvard Business School, Adnan Z. Amin, Director General of IRENA and a closing speech by Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, the President of Iceland.

Iceland is also set to host the largest industry event, the World Geothermal Congress in Reykjavik in 2020.
