Iceland recently blew all 162 evaluated countries out of the water when it ranked #1 in a Global Peace Index survey by Vision of Humanity. This isn’t the first time Iceland has been ranked high, either. In fact, they’ve been #1 on the list since 2008!
A peace index like this denotes not only one of the safest places to live and visit in the world, but one of the happiest as well. Iceland recently ranked #2 in The Better Life Index’s best quality of life study, jumping up nine spots from last year’s list. And is it any wonder? Iceland has so much to offer, from its delicious cuisine to providing the cleanest tap water in the world. With the incredible sights of glaciers, hot springs, waterfalls, lava flows and the northern lights, it’s easy to see why Icelanders would be happy living in such an inspiring environment.
The happiness index is also a show of Iceland’s ability to bounce back, too. The country experienced an economic crash in 2008, leaving potential for a trail of destruction. Instead, they kept their moods high, spreading positivity and working hard to return to their thriving economy. Since 2013, both Iceland’s unemployment rate and pollution levels have dropped and they’re even expecting a tourism boom; tourism jumped 23% in 2013 and they’re predicting as many as 3 million visitors a year by 2020.
Looking for a break from the busy, hurry-up-and-go world? Consider Iceland, officially one of the most peaceful and happy country in the world, for your next vacation.
