The Olympics are in full swing and Iceland’s men handball team beat out the world champion, France on Saturday, August 4th.
The undefeated Iceland team won against the previously undefeated French, 30-29. This win moved Iceland to first place in Group A and was France’s first loss of the tournament.
Iceland’s goalkeeper, Bjorgvin Pall Gustavson spoke on the win, “We were playing against one of the best teams in the world, if not all time. It is two big points, gives us the first place in the group and gives us great confidence for the upcoming games. Of course we want to go all the way. We are taking it step by step.”
Iceland plays the United Kingdom on August 6th at 11:15am. The matches for the medals will be played on Sunday the 12th. Keep your fingers crossed for Iceland!
