The latest sci-fi action movie from Tom Cruise, Oblivion, was shot in Iceland – so MTV News UK traveled to the Land of Fire and Ice to visit the places where the movie was filmed.
Cruise, who has called Iceland “absolutely stunning and hauntingly beautiful,” plays drone expert Jack Harper in the film, which takes places in the year 2077 on a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition. Released in theaters back in April, the film is now available on DVD.
MTV News correspondent Becca Dudley began her trip in Reykjavik, where she was taken on a helicopter flight above the stunning views of Iceland before being dropped off at the only volcano in the world that you can go inside.
Cruise himself also visited the inside of the famed Thrihnukagigur Volcano, which accepts visitors from May 15 – September 10.
Dudley’s next stop was Hotel Ranga in South Iceland, an ideal place to see the Northern Lights. Actress Charlize Theron also stayed at this hotel while shooting another Blockbuster movie, Prometheus.
Finally, Dudley traveled to the Black Sand Desert, where Cruise filmed the motorbike scenes for Oblivion, and enjoyed a river jet boat ride.
