Landsvirkjun Signs New Power Agreement

Iceland’s national power company will now power Advania data centers.

Earlier this month, Landsvirkjun and Advania signed an agreement that Landsvirkjun, the national power company of Iceland, will soon supply power to Advania’s data center in Fitjar. With this new agreement, Advania, the leading Nordic IT company, can now expand their data centers throughout the Nordic countries.

“Advania is a welcome addition to Landsvirkjun’s client base,” said Hörður Arnarson, CEO of Landsvirkjun. “The successful growth of Advania and other data centers in Iceland is based on favorable, long-term, secure energy contracts, a competitive environment and the cooperation of stakeholders within the industry in Iceland.”

Landsvirkjun’s newest data center client is excited about the growth possibilities the partnership will bring.   Gestur G. Gestsson, CEO of Advania said, “Access to energy is a key factor in the operation of data centers, and we are therefore greatly pleased by this agreement with Landsvirkjun. We believe that Landsvirkjun will strengthen our ability to service more global clients in the future.”

Landsvirkjun is the perfect partner to help Advania meet its energy needs. The national power company currently owns and operates 16 power stations including 14 hydropower stations and two wind turbines. In 2017, a new geothermal station will commence power production in Northeast Iceland and the Búrfell Power Station will undergo expansion.
