KEXP Names Júníus Meyvant’s “Across the Borders” One of the Top Ten Albums of 2019!

The Icelandic singer-songwriter’s sophomore album has achieved international acclaim.

Last month, KEXP spotlighted its “DJs Top Albums of 2019” and Kevin Cole, the host of The Afternoon Show, included Icelandic singer-songwriter Júníus Meyvant’s album Across the Borders on his list of the 2019 Top Ten Albums!

Júníus Meyvant is the stage name of Westman Islands-born musician Unnar Gísli Sigurmundsson. Drawing comparisons to Sam Cooke, Charles Bradley, The Rolling Stones and Devendra Banhart, Júníus Meyvant has achieved critical acclaim both in Iceland and abroad for his “afflicted, concise, melodic and rich take on freaky folk pop.”

In 2014, he released his award-winning debut single “Color Decay.” The single attracted praise from KEXP, NPR and Gaffa. The following year, Júníus was awarded ‘Newcomer of the Year’ and ‘Best Single’ by the Icelandic Music Awards. After embarking on successful tours in both the U.S. and Europe, Júníus released his debut album, Floating Harmonies, in 2016. In early 2019, Júníus released his sophomore album, Across the Borders, with musician and engineer Guðmundur Kristinn Jónsson (Erlend Oye, Ásgeir, Hjálmar). You can listen to his Spotify here
