Iceland’s main international airport, Keflavík (KEF), has been named Europe’s number one airport serving under 5 million passengers by ACI Europe.
ACI Europe, Airports Council International, has over 500 airports in 45 member countries. The organization held an award ceremony in Greece, where the award was accepted by Isavia CEO, Björn Óli Hauksson. Keflavik was chosen because of its ability to run at a high level during a time of increased passenger numbers. “These increases have placed huge pressure on the airport, and it is therefore a great pleasure to see that a high level of service can be maintained,” said Hauksson.
The awards are presented to airports for their excellence and achievement in areas such as retail, community relations, facilities, customer services, security, environmental awareness and operations. KEF won Best Airport in various categories in 2009, 2011 and 2014.
