Icelandic musician and composer Johann Johannsson has become one of the world’s most well-known composers in the film industry. In 2014, he received a Golden Globe for his score in the film, The Theory of Everything. He has also secured nominations for an Oscar, Grammy and BAFTA.
Johannsson is preparing to share his first studio album in nearly six years (outside of his work in the movie industry) titled Orphee. The new album will be released on September 16 through the German record label Deutsche Grammophon. When describing Orphee, Johannsson said, “In one sense it’s a kind of diary of the period from 2009 when I started work on the album, ’til the beginning of 2016, when I finished it.”
Johannsson expresses his solo albums are always created before his work with films. Filmmakers enjoy using music from his solo albums, making it easy for his career to co-exist in both solo and film composing.
Throughout rest of 2016, we will see Johannsson touring, researching and writing two film projects – including finishing his own film. Click here to see if Johannsson is playing in a city near you!
