Jóhann Jóhanns­son Wins Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score

The Icelandic composer & musician won a Golden Globe for his score for The Theory of Everything.

Last night, Jóhann Jóhanns­son, the renowned Icelandic composer, received the Golden Globe for “Best Original Score in a Motion Picture,” for his work on the film The Theory of Everything. Jóhanns­son beat out fellow nominees including, Hans Zimmer, Alexandre Desplat, Trent Reznor and Antonio Sanchez. This was Jóhanns­son’s first Golden Globe nomination and win. This is a great honor for Jóhannsson, who became the first Icelander to win a Golden Globe. 

Jóhannsson was recently nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best Original Music for The Theory of Everything and is very likely to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Score. The Academy will announce these nominations on Thursday, January 15.

Jóhannsson has also composed the scores for the critically acclaimed crime drama Prisoners and Sicario. In addition, his original songs have been used in the soundtracks of films such as Wicker Park and Foxcatcher.

Icelandic composer and musician Jóhann Jóhanns­son has been named a 2015 Golden Globe nominee in the category “Best Original Score in a Motion Picture.” Jóhanns­son created the film score for the recently released movie The Theory of Everything. The film was inspired by the memoir Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen by Jane Wilde Hawking, which deals with her relationship with her ex-husband, theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking, his diagnosis of motor neuron disease, and his success in physics.

Jóhanns­son shares the nominee category with some notable competition, including Hans Zimmer for the Hollywood blockbuster Interstellar.
