Iceland’s Imperative: Reform, Restructure, Rebuild
The Minister of Economic Affairs of Iceland, Dr. Gylfi Magnússon addressed members and guests of the National Press Club in Washington, DC on April 7. Minister Magnusson reviewed recent economic developments in Iceland including changes in banking supervision and regulation, future plans going regarding Iceland’s collaboration with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the situation regarding the strife with the UK and the Netherlands over the “Icesave” accounts of the failed private bank, Landsbanki.
Dr. Gylfi Magnsson is a leading Icelandic economist, a professor at the University of Iceland and Iceland’s Minister of Economic Affairs. In 2009, he joined the coalition government of Prime Minister Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir and has been instrumental in leading Iceland’s recovery plan following the economic difficulties of 2008.
