Icelandic Glacial, the world’s first certified carbon neutral water company, is introducing new sustainability initiatives centered around its packaging. The brand’s still and sparkling water will become available in aluminum cans, and other packaging will be made of 50% post-consumer recycled plastic (rPET) by 2021. A new 3-liter package for home use and a new 20-liter option for food service will also be offered.
“Being the world’s first bottled water to be certified carbon neutral for both product and company, sustainability is in our DNA,” said Jon Olafsson, co-founder and chairman of Icelandic Glacial. “Accelerating our efforts by providing sustainable packaging options was the natural next step in our evolution as a company. We want to be at the forefront of sustainability.”
“We’re excited to be able to offer our consumers more sustainable choices. We also encourage them to participate in the process by recycling PET bottles, as the plastic will be reused repeatedly in our rPET bottles,” said Reza Mirza, CEO of Icelandic Glacial.
Iceland Glacial has been using BPA-free recyclable packaging since 2007, and uses geothermal and hydroelectric power to run the entirely sustainable operation. Further cementing its reputation as an environmental leader, Icelandic Glacial has also invested in renewable energy projects around the globe with the CarbonNeutral Company.
