When you think of fish and chips, the U.K. is probably the first country that comes to mind. While Britain and Ireland have always been known for their fish and chips, Iceland is about to give them a run for their money with the opening of the first ever NYC location of the Reykjavik-favorite restaurant, Icelandic Fish & Chips.
Icelandic Fish & Chips prepares this tasty snack slightly different from other countries, making it truly one of a kind. Their version of fish and chips opts for using spelt flour and leaves out the beer so the fish tastes lighter and more tempura-like. Instead of providing chips (thick-cut French fries) on the side, Icelandic Fish & Chips offers organic, roasted potatoes as a healthier alternative.
Fish and chips are typically topped off with tartar sauce; however, Icelandic fish and chips are served with their own unique condiment: Skyronnes®. Skyronnes is a dipping sauce made from skyr, the traditional Icelandic yogurt, mixed together with olive oil, fresh herbs and other spices. If tartar sauce is still your favorite, you can enjoy the Skyronnes tartar sauce, full of flavoring options such as truffle and tarragon, coriander and lime, and chili and roasted paprika.
Icelandic Fish & Chips is a sustainable seafood restaurant, so you’ll feel good knowing your meal was responsibly fished. The restaurant is also an all-day bistro serving lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch so you can satisfy your cravings at any time during the day!
The opening of this restaurant is sure to be a hit among Americans who want to experience a little taste of Iceland. If you’re traveling to Iceland soon and want the full Icelandic seafood experience, be sure to check out some of these top seafood restaurants!
