Icelandair Expands Service from PDX & Announces Alaska Airlines Partnership

Icelandair continues to bridge the gap between the U.S. & Iceland!

In an exciting collaboration, Alaska Airlines and Icelandair have entered into a codeshare agreement and frequent flier partnership in order to expand flying opportunities for their customers and add more ways to earn benefits while flying. The agreement will take effect November 1st. Some of the great new benefits include: one-stop check in, baggage checked to its final destination, more chances to earn miles and coordinated flight schedules. For elite members of the frequent flier program, there are club lounge benefits – Alaska Airlines MVP Gold members will receive complimentary access to Icelandair’s Saga Lounge at Reykjavik’s Keflavik International Airport. Likewise, Icelandair Saga Gold and Silver members are free to enjoy Alaska’s lounges in Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles and Anchorage.

This union will definitely prove to be a fruitful one – combining Icelandair’s many destinations and great services (including onboard Wi-fi, inflight entertainment, three cabins service, and two free checked bags) with Alaska’s smart mileage plan is great news for customers of both airlines.

In addition, Icelandair has announced extended seasonal service from Portland International Airport (PDX). It begins May 11, 2016, and offers an additional weekly flight from June through October. Passengers can set Iceland as their final destination or visit other popular European cities such as Paris, Oslo, Stockholm and Amsterdam. Passengers can take up to a seven night stopover with no additional airfare charge, something only Icelandair offers their customers. Birkir Holm Gudnason, CEO of Icelandair, commented that “Icelandair’s additional flights from PDX will continue to serve the thriving Portland metropolitan area and its many business and leisure travelers. We look forward to growing in the Pacific Northwest and hope to see Portland further develop in the years ahead.” If you’re in the Portland area, be sure to plan your 2016 vacation early!
