Iceland Strikes Gold at the IKA Culinary Olympics

The Icelandic Culinary Team took home gold and silver medals in the Culinary Art Table category over the weekend.

The Icelandic Culinary Team brought home gold and silver medals for the Culinary Art Table category over the weekend at the IKA Culinary Olympics in Erfurt, Germany. Once every four years, the IKA Culinary Olympics brings the world’s best chefs together from over 50 different countries. In the Culinary Art Table category, the teams are required to cook and present 30 dishes over the course of 48 hours. Iceland’s team was honored to receive the gold medal for their pastry dish and silver medals for other courses.

“It’s a great success for the Icelandic Culinary Team,” said Thrainn Freyr Vigfusson, the team’s professional director. “The team members have worked day and night on making the table unique. Eighteen months of hard work is paying off.”

The team hopes to continue their success as they compete in the Hot Kitchen category today. In this event, each team will prepare three course menus for 110 guests. The menus will be evaluated by the judges on look, taste, combination, choice of ingredients and professionalism.

Good luck to the team, and be sure to check back in for the results of the winners!
