Iceland Competes In The Olympic Games

As the 2012 Olympic Games kicked off in London last week, Iceland sent some of its best athletes to fight for their chance at the gold. With the country participating in six of the possible twenty-six events offered, no one should let Iceland’s small size fool them.

While the country will be competing in Swimming, Judo, Shooting, Athletics, and Badminton, it is the national sport of Handball that will be the main focus this year. After coming home with the silver medal in the 2008 Olympic Games they vowed to come back in 2012 and finally claim the gold. With a win over Argentina and Tunisia so far, it appears that the team will honor that promise!

The Icelandic Handball team will compete against Sweden in Group A at the London Olympics on Thursday, August 2nd. MSNBC will air the game live at 5 PM EST. Learn more about the match here.
