Hildur Guðnadóttir Wins Golden Globe Award for Best Original Film Score

With this award, Hildur makes history as the first solo woman to win the award in this category.

Congratulations are in order for Icelandic composer, Hildur Guðnadóttir, who made history at the 2020 Golden Globe Awards as the first solo woman to win for Best Original Film Score! Hildur was honored for her work on Joker, for which she has received high praise from critics. The only woman to previously win the award was Lisa Gerrard in 2000; Gerrard was a co-winner with Hans Zimmer for their work on Gladiator.Hildur has been a TV and film composer for 20 years, but she acknowledged that the industry’s recent focus on gender equality has opened the door for many high-profile opportunities. Backstage at the awards, she called attention to inequality in the industry, acknowledging that she has “definitely benefited a lot” from the heightened awareness around gender equality. She further remarked that, “people are just a bit more open toward trusting women.”This year, Hildur was also recognized for her work on the television show Chernobyl, for which she won an Emmy.  Chernobyl is also up for a Grammy award, and later this month, Hildur’s Joke score is expected to be nominated at the Academy Awards!
