Seyðisfjörður
A welcoming town in East Iceland, Seyðisfjörður has tons of history perfect for learning about Icelandic culture. While you’re there, be sure to check out the Blue Church of Seyðisfjörður, a small church painted in a distinct blue color. The church is most famous for its rainbow street that leads visitors to its doors and makes for the perfect Instagram opportunity! If you happen to be visiting in February, the Light Festival in Seyðisfjörður is a free outdoor art event presented by international artists and performers. Guests can even stay at the unique Við Lónið Guesthouse, a hotel that offers beautiful views of the town and the surrounding area.

Borgarfjörður-eystri
Home to popular hiking trails, Borgarfjörður-eystri holds a number of different activities perfect for any adventure-seeker. Álfaborg, located at the entrance of the Borgarfjörður-eystri fjord, is said to be home to Borghildur, the Queen of Huldufólk in the East. Visitors can relax after a day of hiking and exploring by checking into Blabjorg, the region’s newest restaurant and spa. Still looking for more adventure? Jeep tours are offered nearby taking guests on a 2-3 hour trek across East Iceland’s snow covered mountains.

Vatnajökull National Park and local farms
Be sure to spot Mt. Snaefell, the country’s tallest mountain outside of the glacier regions. Vatnajökull National Park is the best place to enjoy the incredible landscape of Iceland and immerse yourself in nature. Afterwards, you can stop by the Organic Farm Shop and Cafe in Vallanes and enjoy the taste of East Iceland’s amazing farmland where the recipes served change according to the season. Nearby you will also find the Havari Cafe and Farm which doubles as a hostel and a place to enjoy Icelandic cuisine and produce! Visitors looking to get a true Icelandic farm experience should try out the local horse riding and hiking tours at Skorrahestar farm, where guests will learn the area and experience the unique terrain of East Iceland. Visitors can also check out the nighttime experience at Icelandic Wilderness Center and stargaze in the highlands!
