If you’ve ever desired to be in two places at once, the Silfra dive between the North American and Eurasian continents is your calling. The Silfra fissure is a deep crack extending down between the two continents, which are slowly drifting apart. The Huffington Post recently published an article featuring photographer Alex Mustard’s journey into the depths of this incredible fissure. This is the only place in the world you can touch two different continents during your dive.
With visibility extending over 300 feet, the surrounding glacial water is some of the purest and most astoundingly blue water in the world. Although the temperature of the water averages a frigid 36 degrees, divers are equipped with a dry suit to keep perfectly warm during the 6-8 hour dive.
If diving 60 feet into a canyon of massive tectonic plates isn’t for you (or if you don’t have a scuba dive certification), there are snorkeling tours that allow you to witness the beauty from floating in the water above.
