Discover the Wonders of the Westfjords

Travel through the marshlands and waterfalls in the Westfjords region of Iceland!

From scenic waterfalls to witchcraft museums, a trip to Iceland’s Westfjords guarantees an experience like no other. Keep reading to get a glimpse of the many incredible attractions you will experience in the Westfjords.

Iceland’s Second Ring Road

You may have heard of the famous Ring Road which circles Iceland’s coastline, but did you know it has a rival? Following the shore of the Westfjords, Ring Road 2  just may be even more breathtaking with its cliffside views, rolling marshlands, and scenic mountain tops.

Incredible Waterfalls

The Dynjandi Waterfall is one of the most well-known waterfalls in Iceland, and for good reason. The tallest of the falls is 100 meters high and the roar of the rushing water can be heard throughout the fjords and mountains.

Unique Museums

Spending the day at a museum has never been so exciting! The Westfjords is home to a number of unusual museums, such as The Museum of Icelandic Sorcery and Witchcraft in Hólmavík, the Iceland Sea Monster Museum in Bíldudalur and the Nonsense Museum in Flateyri.

Serenity

With just under 7,000 inhabitants, the Westfjords is one of the most peaceful places on the planet. Taking time to escape your busy life and relax, reflect, and immerse yourself in the region’s beautiful nature will feel extremely rewarding.

Local Produce and Salt

While fishing is the main industry in the Westfjords, there is also an abundance of fresh, local produce to indulge in. Additionally, the Westfjords is the only place in the world that produces 100% sustainable salt, which is harvested from the ocean using geothermal heat. The salt factories Saltverk and Norðursalt offer regular sea salt flakes, as well as a range of flavored salt, liquorice salt and birch salt.
