The Arctic Coast Way is much more than just a new driving option for tourists visiting Iceland, it’s an 800 km (almost 500 miles) adventure through some of the most beautiful, untouched parts of the Nordic nation. Opening on June 8, 2019, the Arctic Coast Way offers unique experiences to immerse, engage and connect visitors to the coast of North Iceland, as well as its nature, people and culture. GEOSEA – Geothermal Sea Baths Is Opening Its Doors in 2018
Come for the relaxing geothermal pool, stay for the spectacular views
Located in Húsavík North Iceland, GEOSEA will open its doors in 2018 offering access to unique natural baths and steam rooms. The baths are filled with geothermal seawater creating a healthy, natural and unique experience complemented with a spectacular view. The GEOSEA geothermal sea baths are located on the edge of the Húsavík cliffs overlooking the Arctic Sea, allowing visitors to whale watch and bird watch while taking in the warm seawater. Take a Dip and A Sip at Bjórböðin Beer Spa
Icelandic beer isn’t just for drinking!
A 30 minute drive from Akureyri, Bjórböðin Beer Spa is the perfect place to visit and enjoy a day with your friends or family. This unique and relaxing spa involves patrons laying in a bathtub filled with beer, water, hops and yeast for 25 min and then heading to a relaxation room for another 25 minutes. The treatment cleanses the skin and can have a very positive effect on one’s health!
There are seven tubs at the Beer Spa and it can accommodate up to 14 people every hour, as people can choose between going in the tub together or alone. Since the bathwater does not itself contain alcohol, there is no age limit for the bath, however the draughts on the side of the tub are reserved for patrons of age. The Arctic Henge Is Coming
Move over Stonehenge, there is a new sundial on the block
Set in Raufarhöfn, one of the most remote and northernmost villages in Iceland where the Arctic Circle lies just off the coast, the Arctic Henge (Heimskautsgerðið) is under construction. Similar to its ancient predecessor, Stonehenge, the Arctic Henge acts as a sundial, aiming to capture the sun rays, cast shadows in precise locations and capture the light between aligned gateways.
Heimskautsgerðið (The Arctic-Henge) has its roots in the innovators Erlingur Thoroddsen’s speculations about the possibility to use endless vistas, where nothing obstructs the horizon, and the midnight sun. The idea to use the dwarf names from the eddic poem Völuspá (Prophecy of the Seeress) and modernize some aspects of the old world of the Sagas, soon became a part of these speculations. The first version of the idea is from 1998 but in 2004 it was finalized, with allusions to mythology and folklore, designed to interact with the unique natural light.
New flights to Sauðárkrókur
Take a break from the driving and fly to North Iceland with Eagle Air
Last December, Eagle Air began flying to Sauðárkrókur in North Iceland from Reykjavík. This marked the return of domestic flights to Sauðárkrókur, which had been out of operation for years. This is the sixth destinations in the flight schedule of Eagle Air, and the second in North Iceland with Húsavík being one of their most popular destinations.
