CNN recently named Reykjavik as one of the best winter destinations in the world. Iceland transforms into a white wonderland in the winter, and Reykjavik is full of holiday cheer all season long. Other cities include Prague, Salzburg, Amsterdam and Berlin.
From the annual Winter Lights Festival to winter sports and ice skating, Iceland has plenty to offer during the winter months. For those looking to relax, CNN suggests taking a dip in one of Iceland’s naturally hot geothermal pools, like Blue Lagoon or cozying up in a local coffee house and trying some locally made comfort food like rugbrauo. For dinner, travelers should visit Dill restaurant in the Nordic House cultural center for some of the freshest food in Iceland.
Another must-see is Harpa, the city’s concert hall that’s constructed from more than 1,000 glass blocks. Harpa was designed in part by the Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson and adds a cultural dimension to Iceland’s appeal.
