The upcoming historical drama Reykjavik has locked in its two leading men: Christoph Waltz will depict former Soviet Leader Mikhail Gorbachev opposite Michael Douglas, who will portray former US president Ronald Reagan.
Written by Kevin Hood, Reykjavik tells the riveting story of the 1968 summit in Iceland’s capital where Gorbachev and Reagan met to end the Cold War and to avoid a nuclear war. While negotiations came to a stand still, the summit eventually resulted in the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty the following year.
“I feel very fortunate to have two such masters to portray the men who brought about the end of the third great war of the 20th century,” Newell said.
The Oscar winners are set to begin filming in March 2013 on location in Reykjavik. Stay tuned for more Reykjavik updates!
