Announcing the New Year’s in July Photo Contest: Ring in 2014 in Iceland!

What holiday do you associate with fireworks? For most Americans, it’s probably the 4th of July. But for Icelanders, it’s almost certainly New Year’s Eve.

With no restrictions on fireworks, the entire population of Reykjavik –  approximately 200,000 people – creates its own fireworks show annually on December 31 to welcome the New Year, producing a massive display. Fireworks are mainly sold by the Icelandic Association for Search and Rescue (ICE-SAR) to raise funds for the courageous volunteer association, making Icelanders even more enthusiastic about purchasing fireworks. Now is your chance to witness Reykjavik’s stunning New Year’s Eve fireworks celebration firsthand! Enter our New Year’s in July photo contest for the chance to win a trip for two to Iceland this New Year’s Eve.

How To Enter:

  1. Take a photo of yourself enjoying a fireworks show.

  2. Submit your photo to our contest anytime between June 27 and July 19 by clicking here.

  3. Check Iceland Naturally’s Facebook page on Monday, July 21 to see if you are a finalist.

If you’re selected as a finalist, you can then encourage your friends to vote for your photo from July 22-28. The person whose photo receives the most votes will receive a trip for two to Iceland to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Reykjavik! The winner will be announced on Monday, July 29.

Fear not – if you can’t make it to Reykjavik to welcome 2014, you’ll still be able to watch a live stream of the fireworks show on IcelandNaturally.com on December 31, 2013. Be sure to follow us on Twitter and Instagram as well, where we will host several mini-contests using our official #NewYearsInJuly hashtag. Good luck!
