Last week, New York City Pride Week celebrated the diverse and global LGBTQ community with seven days of exciting parades and public events. The festival was capped off by a weekend Pride Island event sponsored by Reyka Vodka, the official vodka of NYC Pride!
Celebrating the end of Pride Week, the three-day Pride Island is the event’s largest fundraiser. Featuring concerts from a variety of performers from soul singers to indie pop bands, Pride Island brings the entire LGBTQ community together. All proceeds go towards Heritage of Pride, a nonprofit organization dedicated to planning and producing free and community-driven events to benefit the LGBTQ community all year long.
This year’s Pride Island took place at Pier 26 and included performances by Deborah Cox, Patti Labelle, Tegan and Sara, Years & Years and Grammy-Award winning singer and songwriter, Nelly Furtado. At Pride Island, the Reyka Vodka Tent was a popular lounge destination for attendees. Reyka and Iceland Naturally teamed up to enter participants in a contest to win a trip to Iceland by snapping a photo and tagging @ReykaVodka. On Sunday, the event got a special surprise from champion skier Gus Kenworthy, who joined in the festivities and toasted with Reyka Vodka!
Supporting the LGBTQ community has always been important to Reyka Vodka. Iceland has long been known as a prominent leader in the LGBTQ movement as the country was the first to have an openly gay head of government with the election of former Prime Minister, Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir. Reyka is proud to of its Icelandic heritage and to join the global cause.
