Learn How to Knit With Icelandic Designer, Hélène Magnússon

Have you always wanted to learn to knit? Now’s your chance! Iceland Naturally is teaming up with Icelandic/French knit designer, Hélène Magnússon, to bring you a Facebook Live presentation on Icelandic knitting! The virtual event will take place on October 29 at 3pm ET // 12pm PT on Iceland Naturally’s Facebook page. 

Icelandic knitting today conjures up visions of lopi sweaters, a relatively recent invention of just a few decades. Iceland itself, however, has a very rich knitting tradition dating back to the 16th century. The livestream will consist of a 30 minute presentation on the history Icelandic knitting, followed by a knitting lesson where you will learn how to knit a pair of striped wrist warmers inspired by old Icelandic shoe-inserts!

About Hélène Magnússon 

Hélène Magnússon is an Icelandic/French designer with a degree in fashion design. She believes that the best way to preserve traditions is to continue using them, giving them new life. A former lawyer, shepherd and mountain guide, she established her knit design studio in 2010 and has gain international recognition with her distinctive style inspired by the tradition with a modern twist. She is the author of many books about Icelandic knitting and has patterns published in magazines, books and on her website. In the hope that it would help revive some of the old traditions, she created her own range of soft and fine Icelandic yarns (Love Story, Gilitrutt and Katla). She shares her genuine passion for Iceland’s rich knitting heritage in the hiking and knitting tours she organizes and guides all year round in Iceland. More about her work on icelandicknitter.com
