Iceland shows its pride this winter at the Rainbow Reykjavik Festival! Now in its 7th year, the international festival combines majestic nature, exciting nightlife and exceptional cuisine to celebrate the LGBTQ community. With a strong message of acceptance, the festival welcomes guests and participants from countries all over the world, and is a great introduction to Icelandic culture.
Just some of the activities on the festival’s itinerary include a Bingo Extravaganza at Kiki Queer Bar, Masquerade Party, Pink City Walk through downtown Reykjavik and a Rainbow Reykjavik Party to celebrate the end of the week. Optional activities include a Blue Lagoon & Reykjanes Peninsula geological tour, south shore safari, and group dinner at Kol Restaurant. Weather permitting, you’ll even get to participate in a hunt to see the northern lights!
The Rainbow Reykjavik Program is curated by Pink Iceland, Iceland’s first and foremost tour operator and travel agency dedicated to LGBTQ community. 2018 marks the second year that Pink Iceland is solely responsible for the festival. The Rainbow Reykjavik Festival is sponsored by Icelandair, Icelandair Hotels, Reykjavik Excursions and Visit Reykjavik.
Did you know that Iceland was the first country to have an openly gay head of government with the election of former Prime Minister Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir? Iceland has been applauded for its welcoming nature to the entire LGBTQ community and has been recognized as one of the happiest countries to be openly gay.
If Iceland is on your bucket list, there’s no better or more exciting week than the Rainbow Reykjavik Festival to visit! Have you been before or plan on attending? Let us know how you show your pride by tweeting us @IcelandNatural!
