On March 1, Icelanders around the country will celebrate Icelandic Beer Day in honor of the the end of prohibition, which concluded on March 1, 1989. The sale of this now wildly popular libation was banned for nearly 75 years. Since then, an abundance of Icelandic breweries have opened their doors and crafted award-winning beers for the whole world to enjoy.
To commemorate the event, “Your Friends in Reykjavik,” Valur & Ástþór, and the Founder of RVK Brewing, Siggi, will host a Facebook Live Beer Tasting from the taproom of RVK Brewing! On Saturday, February 27 from 4pm EST – 5:15pm EST, join the crew for a virtual beer tasting where they’ll discuss the beverages and the history of beer in Iceland. And making it. And spreading out the word about good beer in Iceland. Beer was only allowed in Iceland in the late eighties. Until then we could only have it abroad or have it smuggled into the country, and the first beers to arrive were just ok. So the story of craft beer here is pretty short.
