Visit Fimbul PDX on October 9 to take part in a Black Death Dinner and Brennivín flight featuring Fimbul chef Matt Wickstrom and Icelandic mixologist Teitur Ridderman Schiöth. Tickets are available here and include the tasting menu and curated flight of rare Brennivín.

MUSIC | Reykjavik Calling at The Dandy Warhols’ Odditorium

On October 11, the renowned Reykjavik Calling concert stops in Portland, Oregon in collaboration with KEXP! The concert will feature Icelandic artists Vök and Gyda and will include local American band, Minden. Held at The Dandy Warhols’ Odditorium, this concert will highlight some of the best of Iceland’s musical talent.

Vök, initially formed by Margrét Rán and Andri Mar, gained recognition within months of forming when the group won Iceland’s prestigious Músíktilraunir, a battle of the bands contest featuring past alumni winners such as Of Monsters and Men, Samaris, and Mammút. In 2017, Vök released their highly anticipated debut LP, Figure, which received the award for Best Electronic Album of the Year at the Icelandic Music Awards. Vök is currently in the process of writing their sophomore album, due out early 2019.

Gyda Valtysdottir has been active as a musician since her early teens when she co-founded the experimental pop-group múm in the late 1990’s. Gyda has created music for films, installations and dance, among many other creative ventures, possessing a rare range of musical experiences which creates a unique alchemical compound. Her first solo album, Epicycle, was released worldwide in 2017 to great acclaim, for example winning Album of the Year at the prestigious Iceland Music Awards. Her sophomore album will be released at the end of September.

Minden is a Portland-based band making music since 2011. Band members Casey Burge, Candy Sweets Taylor, Evan Houston, Papi Fimbres and Lia Lavendar create unique indie rock music with a wide range of sounds. Their latest album, Sweet Simple Things, was released in 2016. This will be the band’s first performance with Taste of Iceland.

Reykjavik Calling in Portland will be held at The Dandy Warhols’ Odditorium, a famous venue known for being the studio, rehearsal space, banquet hall and den of the Dandy Warhols. Today, The Dandy Warhols’ Odditorium doubles as a wine shop, bar and concert space.
