Vök

Vök, named after the Icelandic word for “hole in the ice,” is an electronic-dream pop band based in Reykjavik. Initially formed by Margrét Rán and Andri Mar, Vök gained recognition within months of forming when the group won Iceland’s prestigious Músíktilraunir, a battle of the bands contest featuring past alumni winners such as Of Monsters and Men, Samaris, and Taste of Iceland alum Mammút. The triumph soon led to the recording and release of their debut EP, Tension, which received glowing reviews.

Soon after becoming a four-piece band, including Einar Stef on drums, Vök began to further market themselves as rising innovators of smart, atmospheric jams with the release of their second EP, Circles. After playing shows and festivals in Europe, the band soon caught the attention of Nettwerk Music Group who instantly signed them for an international record deal. In 2017, Vök released their highly anticipated debut LP, Figure, which received the award for Best Electronic Album of the Year at the Icelandic Music Awards.

After completing their biggest headline European tour yet earlier this year, and appearing at international  festivals such as Sónar in Reykjavík and Istanbul, Vök is currently in the process of writing their sophomore album, due out early 2019.
