Thrainn Freyr Vigfússon is one of two head chefs at Blue Lagoon Iceland’s Lava Restaurant. With an innovative approach and a mastery of his craft, Thrainn is a leading figure in Iceland’s culinary landscape. He has extensive experience both at home and abroad, and is currently the coach of the Icelandic Culinary Team.
Among his numerous awards are: Iceland Chef of the Year (2007); One World Culinary Chef Competition, gold medal (2008); Nordic Chef of the Year, silver medal (2009); World Culinary Cup, two gold medals (2014).
His culinary emphasis is on New Nordic Cuisine, and the ingredients that guide his creations are local, fresh, and natural. Having grown up in the north of Iceland in an agricultural community, he took his first steps in the culinary world while working at his father’s hotel.
