The Dirty Dottys is a seven piece pop-motown ensemble formed by front person and songwriter Julie DiOrio. The band name honors Julie’s grandmother, Dotty, who is known for her her dirty sense of humor speckled with Yiddish phrases. Their unconventional instrumentation consisting of three singers, vibraphone, trombone, upright bass, drumset, guitar, and ukulele allows them to create a truly new sound while simultaneously nodding affably at their musical predecessors. In addition to Julie, the other band members include Jonathan Kessler, Eleanor Foster, Maura McGillicuddy, Danny Teza, Austin Arroco, and Michael Thomas Doyle.
