Kári Sigurðsson started his career in late 2011 as a bar-back at a downtown bar called Faktory, but quickly worked his way up to a bartending position. Kari went on to become the head bartender at Apotek Restaurant (which holds the title of Best Cocktail Bar in Reykjavík), as well as a guide for beer and cocktail crawls in Reykjavik.
The cocktail scene in Iceland was almost nonexistent at the start of his career, but it is now blossoming – and Kári has directly taken part in and affected this evolution. He has worked at numerous bars and restaurants, constantly learning from others and improving his knowledge of the craft. Kári has taken part in numerous competitions, most notably winning the Icelandic Championships twice in a row, as well as winning the 2015 Brennivín competition, which won him a trip to New Orleans’s Tails of the Cocktail. Ever since his 2016 victory, Kári has worked closely with Brennivín, hosting pop-up bars during Iceland Airwaves and events abroad.
