Iceland’s newest attraction is opening on June 1, 2015! Into the Glacier, the world’s first ice-cap glacier cave located on the western slopes of Iceland’s Langjökull, will open to visitors this spring.
Into the Glacier stretches deep underground, enabling visitors to view the ice that has been forming for centuries. As visitors get further underground, the ice gets older and the color changes from white to a magnificent, deep blue; you will also have the chance to witness crevasses stretching deep into the glacier.
In addition to being an underground passage, Into the Glacier will be an all-in-one entertainment spot, featuring a network of caves and tunnels with ample room for an exhibition space, ice sculptures, a restaurant, and even a chapel (yes, you can have your wedding here!) The attraction is also designed to provide glaciologists, meteorologists and other scientists with an opportunity to study the glacier in a new way.
This is the first excursion of its kind in Iceland, and is a great day trip for travelers visiting Reykjavik and the surrounding area. The tour inside the glacier, which takes about 45 minutes, is an adventure for everyone and an excellent choice for families. Day trips will be available from March through October, and Into the Glacier will be open year-round for groups.
