Traveling to Iceland is Now More Affordable Than Ever

The strong U.S. dollar makes traveling to Iceland incredibly affordable.

According to the Washington Post, 2015 may be the perfect time to get away on a European vacation. The American economy is showing real strength and the dollar has greater buying power compared to almost all other worldwide currencies. Hotel prices are down and prices on most international items are relatively low for U.S. buyers, making international travel more affordable and definitely worthwhile!

The land of fire & ice is a great destination for a family trip, honeymoon, or even a quick weekend getaway (Iceland is just a 5 hour flight from NYC). Luckily, Icelandair offers a series of vacation packages for every occasion that are now more affordable than ever before.

If this has you ready to book a trip to Iceland, here are few activities worth booking:

Visit Blue Lagoon

Blue Lagoon was created in 1976 during an operation at the nearby geothermal power plant. In the years that followed, people began to bathe in the naturally warm, blue water and apply the silica mud to their skin. Those with psoriasis noticed an incredible improvement in their condition. Over the years, Blue Lagoon has harnessed this gift of nature to develop different spa services and products. Today, Blue Lagoon is recognized as one of the wonders of the world. Catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights

The aurora borealis, also known as the northern lights, is a gorgeous natural light display caused by the collision of energetic charged particles with atoms in the high altitude atmosphere. The result is breathtaking: a greenish neon light that illuminates the night sky. Iceland’s geographic location, which puts it directly under the main concentration of the northern lights annulus (or Great Belt), makes it an ideal place to view the natural phenomenon. Icelandair offers tours and takes you to the ideal places to see them. Maybe you’ll even be lucky enough to travel on Icelandair’s Hekla Aurora plane!

Cruise your way around Iceland
Iceland’s first cruise ship will offer adventurous luxury cruises around Iceland and Greenland starting this summer. Iceland Pro Cruises is setting sail on a series of unforgettable journeys starting in June 2015. The MS Ocean Diamond ship was recently refurbished and features a casual on-board dining area, a deck with a heated pool, an expedition team, and single, double, and triple occupancy bedroom suites. The Ocean Diamond will be home to four different cruise options, giving passengers the opportunity to explore Iceland, Greenland or both! Click here to book a cruise today!

Hike Laugavegur, one of the world’s best hiking trails

Iceland’s Laugavegurinn/Fimmvörðuháls Pass is a 50-mile trail winding through Iceland’s southern highlands. The pass stretches from Landmannalaugar to Thórsmörk and offers views of highland valleys, stunning glaciers, and the notorious Eyjafjallajökull volcano. Travelers who feel inspired by the surreal landscape aren’t alone: the region, and the valley of Thórsmörk in particular, are believed to have served as the inspiration behind J.R.R. Tolkien’s vision of Middle Earth. Read more about the Laugavegurinn/ Fimmvörðuháls Pass here.

Other places to visit while the dollar is strong are Russia, Sweden, Brazil and Italy. Click here to read more about these vacation destinations and begin planning your next trip!
