While Reykjavik may be Iceland’s best known city, Akureyri is a must-see Icelandic destination! Located in northern Iceland, Akureyri promises visitors plenty of exciting activities and sights. We’re bringing you the top five things to check out while visiting this northern hub.​​

  1. Akureyrarkirkja

    Akureyrarkirkja, also known as The Church of Akureyri, is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the city. Located in the heart of Akureyri, the church towers over the town and features a 3200-pipe organ.

  2. Akureyri Botanic Garden

    The Akureyri Botanic Garden is one of the most beautiful sights in the city, featuring a stunning display of flowers and plants. Any lover of the great outdoors will enjoy exploring the variety of vegetation that call this region of Iceland home.

    No matter what time of year you visit Akureyri, there’s a good chance there may be a festival in town! There are numerous festivals that take place in the city year-round, including the Vaka folk art festival, the Akureyri Motor Events festival, and winter sport festivals such as the Iceland Winter Games and AK Extreme.
