Take the Pledge to Travel Responsibly in Iceland!

Inspired by Iceland introduces new initiative and the chance to win a trip to Iceland!

“I pledge to be a responsible tourist. When I explore new places, I will leave them as I found them. I will take photos to die for, without dying for them. I will follow the road into the unknown, but never venture off the road. And I will only park where I am supposed to. When I sleep out under the stars, I’ll stay within a campsite. And when nature calls, I won’t answer the call on nature. I will be prepared for all weathers, all possibilities, and all adventures.”

These are the commitments tourists make when they sign Iceland’s new “Icelandic Pledge.” The agreement was composed by Inspired by Iceland, in an effort to encourage tourists traveling the country this summer to do so safely and responsibly. Iceland is the first country to introduce an initiative aiming to positively affect behavior change, and develop a more informed tourist community.

Tourism Minister Þórdís Kolbrún R. Gylfadóttir points out that “the type of people who come to Iceland want to be responsible tourists, it’s just that they aren’t always aware of what that entails. So as part of our welcome we wanted to create a pledge which we’ll encourage all visitors to take, creating an army of people who know how to stay safe and also how to look after our delicate nature.”

Tourists can take the Icelandic Pledge here. After completing the oath, participants will receive a special shareable digital badge to demonstrate their support on social media along with the hashtag #IcelandicPledge!

Iceland is also looking to reward pledge-takers for their support by giving them a chance to win an exciting trip to Iceland! Prizes include flights with Icelandair, Airport Express Transfer, Fosshotel accommodations, Hertz car rental, Heli Happy Hour helicopter tour, The Movie and Music Tour by Gray Line and Golden Circle & Magical Night tour by Icelandic Mountain Guides.
