Secret Solstice, Iceland’s Midnight Sun Music Festival Returns June 19!

Experience the three-day music festival under the midnight sun.

From June 19th to the 21st, Reykjavik will be hosting the Midnight Sun Music Festival, the world’s only music festival that lasts three days without night.

Coachella, Lollapalooza, Summerfest, Bonnaroo… It’s festival season again.  While the locations differ, the similarities from festival to festival start to blur.  But there’s only one music festival where you can party for three days without the sun setting the entire time, and that’s at Iceland’s Secret Solstice!

Secret Solstice, the Midnight Sun Music Festival, is a three-day party spanning from June 19th to the 21st during the midnight sun in Reykjavik.  A midnight sun is a natural phenomenon in which the sun shines visibly for 24 consecutive hours. That means it will never get dark the entire festival! Under a bright sky all day and night, festival-goers can jam to acts such as Wu Tang Clan, The Wailers, FKA Twigs, Kelis, Charles Bradley and His Extraordinares, MØ, and local bands like Mugison, GusGus, Hermigervill, Junis Meyvent, and Uni Stefson. We’ve seen Hermigervill and Uni Stefson before as Taste of Iceland performers, and over a hundred more artists will be joining them onstage this summer. This year’s festival is only the second ever. Last year’s drew in around 8,000 people, and this year it’s expecting even a grander crowd.

Those attending Secret Solstice are invited to camp in tents for the duration of the festival, and to their joy they will not find a single mosquito. Iceland has a mosquito population of zero, so you can leave the bug spray behind. Icelandic Glacial, makers of the most environmentally-friendly and naturally-sourced water, is partnering with Secret Solstice for the sixth consecutive year to keep performers hydrated and sell its volcano-rock filtered water to more than 10,000 festivalgoes! What else? Secret Solstice has its own on-site geothermally heated pool to bathe in, which certainly no other festival is equipped with. For anyone with sore feet or is feeling a little under the weather because of too much celebrating the night before, a hot bath is surely the cure. And drinks there will be! Large beers will be going for approximately $5.30, so downing a couple Brios definitely won’t drain your wallet.

For those traveling to the festival from abroad the experience will certainly be surreal. At most festivals, the transition from day to night breaks up the event.  A three day party without night is like an alternative universe—an experience like no other. So book your flight on Icelandair today and experience this unforgettable festival for yourself!

Oh, and of course Bjork will be there.
