The Science and Art of Björk’s “Mutual Core” Music Video

Icelandic singer-songwriter Björk released a new music video for her song “Mutual Core” this week, using geological activity as a metaphor for the volatility of an intimate relationship.

Los Angeles-based filmmaker Andrew Thomas Huang directed the music video, having visited geological museums in London for inspiration, studying the color palettes of rock collections and watching videos of magma ballooning from underwater volcanoes.

“Mutual Core” comes from the album Biophilia, Björk’s most overt celebration of science, human biology and the natural world.
