Scandinavian Folk Duo, My bubba, Makes Waves in the U.S.

This pair has an American sound with a Scandinavian soul.

A chance meeting in Copenhagen brought Guðbjörg Tómasdóttir (Bubba), from Iceland, and My Larsdotter (My), from Sweden, together. The result was the creation of My bubba, a Scandinavian folk duo bearing the pair’s names. The two began singing together almost immediately after meeting and soon were invited to tour in Italy where they released their debut album How it’s Done in Italy in 2010. Now, six years later, My bubba has released their third studio album and their signature soft sound is taking hold in America.

My bubba’s unique sound is inspired by American country and bluegrass, but their lyrics are rooted in their Scandinavian heritage. The lyrics behind the title track off their new album, The Big Bad Good, tells the story of Bubba’s grandfather who came to Iceland on a Greenland expedition and the trials he faced along the way. All of the music on The Big Bad Good was recorded as it was written, giving each song a raw, authentic feel.

This September, My Bubba will be performing at the Americana Music Festival and Conference in Nashville. The duo was named one of the top five rising stars you must see at this years festival by AXS. Watch My Bubba perform in Nashville at Music City Roots earlier this year below! You can also watch the musical pair in NPR Music Tiny Desk Concerts here.

My bubba is currently on tour throughout the United States and is playing a number of upcoming festivals in Europe.
