Reykjavik Named #1 City in the World by Rough Guides

Rough Guides cites the city’s art scene and natural wonders as reasons why Reykjavik is #1.

Iceland’s beautiful capital, Reykjavik, is at it again – this time earning the #1 spot in Rough Guide’s Top 10 Cities for 2016. The city beat out other contenders like Nashville and Amsterdam to receive this coveted spot.

And there are plenty of reasons why. Tourism numbers to Reykjavik are skyrocketing, with particular emphasis on the city’s art scene, nightlife and natural wonders. Rough Guides loves Reykjavik’s cheerfully colorful homes, which fit beautifully in the Icelandic landscape. Reykjavik also offers the freshest fish for visitors to sample and the famous “rúntur,” a round-tour of the city’s best bars.

Just a short drive from Reykjavik, visitors can recuperate from a night out by soaking in one of Blue Lagoon’s famous hot geothermal pools or taking a hike through the rugged terrain. Take a peek at the video below to see even more of Reykjavik’s charm:
